A Grateful and Resilient Young Woman
Elisha, a resilient individual who has battled cystic fibrosis for 37 years, received a life-changing double lung transplant in July 2013. Following the transplant, Elisha embraced a relatively normal and independent lifestyle.
However, the holiday season of 2023 presented an unexpected hurdle. Elisha contracted Influenza A, compounded by the unfortunate resistance of the strain to Tamiflu medication. This led to hospitalization at on January 25th, 2024, where Elisha spent six days on a ventilator.
Subsequently, Elisha was transferred to another hospital’s comprehensive transplant unit, only to encounter further complications. An acute lung rejection episode followed by Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) necessitated another ICU admission, with Elisha spending an additional seven days on a ventilator.
With Elisha hospitalized since January 25th, financial strains have become a stark reality for the family. Elisha's husband, a steadfast presence throughout the ordeal, has foregone income to remain by Elisha's side. While he plans to return to work, Elisha's ongoing recovery journey paints a picture of extended financial hardship.

Juggling hospital stays and temporary accommodations over the past two months has tested their resilience. The assurance that their rent is covered for the month brings a sense of relief amidst the uncertainty, as they eagerly await the day they can return home.
This and all of our other programs are only possible because of you. Thank you for your continued support!
