Why 2025 Might Be a Smart Year to Give

I’ve never thought of charitable giving as a “tax strategy.”

For me, it has always been about showing up for families when life feels heavy, especially those navigating cystic fibrosis. That belief is what led me to build Claire’s Place Foundation, and it’s what keeps me grounded in this work every day.

That said, I’ve been paying a little more attention lately to some upcoming changes in tax law that take effect in 2026, and I wanted to share why they matter in a simple, human way.

Here’s the short version:

The standard deduction is expected to decrease in 2026. Right now, many people take the standard deduction, which means charitable gifts don’t always change their tax picture. Once that deduction is reduced, more people may need to itemize to see a tax benefit from giving.

For accountants, this is familiar territory. For the rest of us, it can feel confusing and like one more thing to figure out.

What does this mean in real life?

It may be easier and more beneficial to make charitable gifts in 2025 rather than waiting until next year. Not because giving should ever be driven by taxes alone, but because timing can help your generosity go further.

If supporting families impacted by cystic fibrosis is already close to your heart, this is an opportunity to:

  • Make a gift you were already planning to give

  • Combine donations into this year to maximize impact

  • Support programs families rely on while the rules are still simpler

At Claire’s Place Foundation, every gift directly supports people in moments of real need. It helps a parent stay afloat during a long hospital stay. It helps an adult with CF find work that fits their health. It reminds families they are not alone.

This isn’t about rushing or pressure. It’s about being thoughtful with timing so your impact, and potentially your tax planning, works a little better for you.

If you’ve been considering a year-end gift, 2025 may be a meaningful time to act.

Because at the end of the day, giving isn’t about deductions.

It’s about impact, compassion, and showing up when it matters most.
